7mm from Hell: Coping with Kidney Stone Pain
Moderate to severe pain is common in both peripheral (affecting largely the peripheral nerves) and central (primarily targeting the central nervous system in the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves) demyelinating disorders. This course will describe the painful conditions associated with peripheral demyelinating conditions such as Guillain-BarrŽ syndrome as well as chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy. We will also review central demyelinating conditions such as multiple sclerosis and transverse myelitis. A multimodal approach to the management of pain in this setting will be emphasized.
